How can we provide the world with sustainable energy? The Energy research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN) continuously works on addressing this challenge. ECN develops knowledge and technology with and for the market that enable a transition to a sustainable energy system. We are successful in our efforts, as we prove to be an attractive partner for the industry, universities and research institutes in the Netherlands, Europe and worldwide.
The greatest challenge of today is to solve the energy problems of tomorrow
ECN is the largest research centre in the Netherlands in the field of renewable energy. Our researchers move between fundamental research application of knowledge and implementing technologies in practice. Our work has a huge impact on daily life. For example, modern wind turbines produce energy at sea and highly efficient solar cells and panels are produced all over the world, using technology developed by ECN. We focus on the following core activities: solar energy, wind energy, biomass, environmental research, sustainable heat and processing technology, and policy studies. With these activities, we fulfill an important function for today’s and tomorrow’s society.
